Who are AquaNewts swimming lessons for?
Our lessons cater to a wide range of ages and abilities, from parent & baby classes for infants aged 2.5 years+, through to pre-school, school-aged children and adult learners. We focus on small class sizes to ensure personalised attention.
What age groups do you teach?
Our main lessons begin from 2.5/3yrs and we cater up to any age; so whether your looking for your toddlers first swimming lessons or an adult training for a triathlon.
We don't deliver baby group sessions, however, we can consider a 1-1 / 1-2 option for children over 6 months.
How do the lessons work?
Our lessons typically run in 4 week blocks, with a 30 minute lesson once a week. Classes are structured, progressive, and fun, focusing on water confidence, safety, and developing strong swimming techniques through engaging activities. You can attend more than 1 session a week if you wish!
What qualifications do your instructors have?
All AquaNewts instructors are highly qualified, holding recognised swimming teaching certifications (e.g., STA, Swim England), enhanced DBS checks, and up-to-date first aid and safeguarding training.
What should my child wear for their lesson?
Children should wear a well-fitting swimming costume or trunks. For babies and toddlers who are not fully toilet trained, a double nappy system (swim nappy underneath a neoprene nappy cover) is mandatory. Goggles are not permitted for Little Newts lessons until the teacher gives you permission that a swimmer can confidently submerge the face in the water; but are recommended for swimmers past Stage 2.
What should we bring to the lesson?
Please bring a towel, swimming costume/trunks, any necessary double nappy system, goggles (if desired), and a bottle of water. For parent & baby classes, you might also want a changing mat and baby changing essentials.
We'd also recommend advanced swimmers bring a bottle of water.
How does your style differentiate from other swim schools?
We have our own methodology which has been adapted over years of experimenting and CPD for our teachers. We also strengthen our criteria for our stage specific goals and distances. Please visit our Methodology and Criteria Details pages to find out more.

Can parents watch the lessons?
At most venues, yes, parents/carers/family are welcome to watch lessons from designated viewing areas. We ask that you remain discreet to avoid distracting the children and instructors. We also know that a few minutes of bliss don't go amiss so feel free to wait in your car if you wish!
**Please note, a small number of venues are non spectating; which means you can stay and watch the first and last 5 minutes of the lesson. Spectating dispensations are granted on special request.**
